KYKO NATURE

Electronic pop riffs and South African inspired beats become unlikely companions in KYKO’s new track ‘Nature’. Scott Verrill’s syrupy vocals align natural imagery, such as dragonflies and rivers, with a shimmering pop production and a rich plethora of African drum beats. It’s an instantly feelgood track that pushes the limits of pop music and building on that broadening sound we heard in ‘Horizon’. Speaking on this mega tune, "With my new tracks I'm definitely pushing the electronic side. I really want to make something different... I've been coming back to [Paul Simon's] Graceland album a lot lately. I'm really into South African music at the moment as well, and I've tried to combine elements of that with electronics." The 20-year-old South Londoner has spent the past four months holed up in the studio, experimenting with digital tools, exploring music from far flung scenes and redefining what a singer-songwriter can be. The result of that studio stint was his Wildlife EP due for release early next year, so we can be sure to hear from KYKO again. - HT
